Gold bar up for grabs at Big Bad Wolf Books fair in Ipoh

IPOH: Visitors to the Big Bad Wolf Books fair in Ipoh next month can win a 10-gram gold bar as organisers seek to draw more readers to the annual event. The 11-day fair at AEON BiG Falim from July 3 to 13 will feature up to one million books across various categories, with discounts of up to 95 per cent. Big Bad Wolf Books senior manager for sponsorship, strategic partnerships and public relations Chloe Lim Sooi Yee said a 10-gram gold bar would be offered as the grand prize through the fair's "Spend and Win" and "Snap and Win" campaigns.

The prize is a Valcambi gold bar produced by a Swiss precious-metals refinery.

Visitors do not need to make a purchase to qualify for the lucky draw.

"Through our 'Snap and Win' campaign, visitors only need to take a photo with family or friends at the venue, upload it on social media and tag Big Bad Wolf Books' official account to earn an entry into the lucky draw.  "We want everyone who visits the fair to have a chance of winning, regardless of whether they buy books," she said. Visitors who spend at least RM85 in a single receipt will automatically receive one entry under the "Spend and Win" campaign. To mark the opening day on July 3, participants in the "Snap and Win" campaign will receive five entries, increasing their chances of winning the grand prize. Lim said the gold bar reflected the enduring value of knowledge. "Knowledge is like gold. It never loses its value. The more you read, the more valuable the knowledge and skills you gain," she said. Among the highlights of this year's fair are books priced at RM2, RM3 and RM5, as well as heavily discounted boxed sets and complete collections, including the Harry Potter series. Students and teachers will receive an additional five per cent discount with the purchase of at least three books. Lim said the company was targeting sales of between 800,000 and one million books during the Ipoh event. "We hope to continue returning to Ipoh every year with more exciting titles and attractive offers for readers," she added. The fair will also feature online contests, RM10 vouchers for the first 50 visitors each day and instant discounts of up to RM15 based on spending.
